Just an initial feeling about ToK…

So…

Initial thoughts on Theory of Knowledge (ToK)…

I’m going to struggle…

I’m really not sure if this is for me. Don’t get me wrong, I do sometimes indulge myself in wondering what life would be like if we had limited knowledge of language like the dystopian world of 1984 and if that would mean that what we think we know may be influenced by what we’re exposed to which may therefore mean that what we think we know isn’t the know-all and end-all of what knowledge actually is…but the thought processes I go through are quite limited and restricted, most likely because I have no actual experience about what it would actually be like. I also don’t think the conclusions I come to are valid in their reason.

Anyhow, this is a required and essential part of the IB programme. Why? I’m not too sure. My best guess is to help us understand how people know what they know and how that can affect people’s beliefs (you know, the ones created based on what they think they know) internationally.

On a more positive note, so far I think I’ll like the ‘subject’. We’ve looked at 2 of the 8 ways of knowing: sensory perception and memory. I do enjoy these types of lessons though. The types that make a person think about something that isn’t so straightforward and cant be easily explained because its different for everyone even though there are many similarities in how everyone attains knowledge.

Going to give it a fair shot and see how it goes… {hopefully really well :)}
